Record Replacement
|
Each 3rd grade student at Downes receives a recorder to use in music class and
keep forever. Students are expected to keep this recorder to use in 4th and 5th
grade. If a student loses his or her recorder, his or her parent or guardian is
expected to replace it. (Students new to Downes in 4th and 5th grade will receive
a free recorder to keep.) Here is some helpful information on location and
purchasing a replacement recorder.
What to ask for: a “C soprano recorder with Baroque fingering system”.
Type and price consideration: You should buy a plastic in the $5 to $10 price
range. Recorders under $5 are essentially toys and may not produce the proper
tone. Please do not buy your replacement recorder at the Dollar Store. Do not let
anyone sell you a “pro” model or a wood recorder, these can cost upwards of
$150. If you have a financial hardship, please contact me and we’ll come up with
a solution.
Some vendors:
Remember that recorder is an important part of music class. Students will use
the recorder for about 15 minutes each class. If a student does not have a
recorder on music day, he or she receives time out. If a student forgets his or her
recorder 3 or more times during a marking period, that student’s music grade
may go down one grade category.
